Scans your internal network and find IoT devices that may have vulnerabilities. This scan should discover devices that can be compromised by the Mirai virus (or maybe already compromised devices).

If you see devices in the problem section,  we strongly recommend you to upgrade that device software.  If you see default password being detected, we also recommend you to change them.

If your scan is clean, we do recommend you to come back often, especially when you are adding new gadgets to the home.

Difference Between Blue and Red

Speed and Power

While the Firewalla Red was optimized for affordability, the Blue will be optimized for power and speed. Faster processor and more memory to handle the network traffic and attacks at near gigabit speed.  

Firewalla Blue will be based on the same software as Firewalla Red. The same software that’s been protecting families across 57 countries around the world.   

Both boxes will be using the same App, there is no change.   There will be changes in the cloud to provide more complex security intel for these newer devices.

How does firewalla scan: 

“A vaccine is a biological preparation that provides active acquired immunity to a particular disease. A vaccine typically contains an agent that resembles a disease-causing microorganism and is often made from weakened or killed forms of the microbe” (Wikipedia)

The Firewalla app does exactly what a vaccine would do to a real person.  To implement the internal scans,  our engineers took a live virus, cut it in pieces,  made sure the part active is harmless,  and finally added our sauce to make it harmless.    By doing so, we simply made the virus tell us which of your devices are hacked or can be easily hacked.

A typical virus has a few stages

1. Dormant
2. Propagation / infection
3. Activation
4. Attack

What we have done is delete the code for activation and attack.   And remove the infection part from (2).
